Project Summary

Parc Eolien Taiba N’Diaye (PETN) is Senegal’s first large scale wind energy project and a critical part of the government’s “Plan Senegal Emergent”.

Conceived as an idea in 2007, it will provide 158.7 megawatts of clean, reliable power to Senegal’s electricity grid. This is a 15% increase in electricity generation capacity for the country, providing power for over 2 million people.

Built near the Taiba N’Diaye community, the wind farm will create 600 employment opportunities during the peak of its construction phase.

PETN is designed to generate electricity for at least 20 years through its 46 wind turbines. During that time, up to $20 million will be invested by PETN in wider socio-economic projects for Taiba N’Diaye.

The project is one of several being built by Lekela. Founded in 2015, it specialises in delivering utility-scale renewable energy to communities across Africa.

As well as Taiba N’Diaye, Lekela is building wind farms in Ghana, South Africa and Egypt. Each of these wind farms is built on the same principles – delivering clean power, while investing in the local community to improve education, enterprise and the environment.

PETN will provide power for over 2 million people and is designed to generate electricity for at least 20 years using its 46 wind turbines.

Mission & Values

Mission:

Energising Africa’s sustainable future

Vision:

Lekela’s ultimate vision is to deliver long-term and sustainable benefits for African countries and communities through clean, reliable power.

Build success on a foundation of integrity

We’re here for the long term and must earn the trust of our customers, partners and stakeholders. We do this by acting with integrity; balancing the needs of stakeholders, being honest with partners, and following through on our promises.

We embrace diversity

We operate in diverse markets and therefore we reflect this in what we do as a company. There is no one-size-fits-all approach and so we always value, respect and invite alternative perspectives.

We enjoy the way we work together

We foster a supportive and collaborative working environment. We achieve our goals by working together and empowering each other to deliver.

We turn ideas into megawatts

In fast moving markets, we must adapt quickly and have the persistence to get our projects done and meet the needs of our stakeholders.

We are passionate about the benefits of energising Africa

What we do matters, so we do it well. We believe it is right that we transition to low-cost, low-carbon power generation and we are passionate about the benefits of renewable energy.

For our environment, later is not an option

We have a responsibility to think big and act now to protect the climate and environment. That means being ambitious, acting decisively, working hard, and delivering on our commitments.
