Community members receive further land payments for PETN project

Members of the Taiba N’Diaye community this week received their final tranche of payments in exchange for the use of their land for the Parc Eolien Taiba N’Diaye (PETN) project.

The wind farm will generate 158.7 megawatts of clean energy. This electricity will be used by over 2 million people across Senegal and help reduce the import of expensive fossil fuels currently used in the country.

To generate this electricity, 46 wind turbines will be built around Taiba N’Diaye. These require the use of land owned by the local community, which is why a series of payments have been made in exchange. The land around each wind turbine can then continue to be used for farming or other purposes.

Further details of this week’s payments to many of Taiba’s families can be viewed in the video below.
